Designer Vivienne Westwood is famous for her sense of style and couture.
So it’s shocking to hear her criticize Kate Middleton, one of the most stylish icons of our era.
But don’t fret: her criticism is of the “constructive” variety. It’s the type of criticism you might say to a friend, in private … although Westwood had the poor judgement to say it to the press.
What about Kate does this renowned designer find so unappealing? In a word: eyeliner.
“I think she’s got a problem with eye make-up,” Westwood told London’s Sunday Times Magazine. “The sharp line around her eyes make her look hard. Either she should be smudgy or wear none.”
But the fashion queen, who has been in the industry for 40 years, phrased her remarks as a backhanded compliment.
“It seems to me, that her (Kate’s) image is ‘ordinary woman,’” Westwood said. “… and I just think she should be an extraordinary woman.”
Readers, what do you think? Should she soften and smudge her eyeliner, or are her eyes great the way they are?
