Kate’s $464,000 wedding dress (yes, that dress cost enough to buy a sprawling estate in most upscale U.S. neighborhoods) is on display at Buckingham Palace until October 3 … but it has at least one detractor: The Queen.
While on a private tour of the exhibit with Kate, Queen Elizabeth thought the head-less effect of the mannequin wearing the dress looked “horrid” and — in case anyone missed the point — she also said it looked “horrible,” according to the London Telegraph.
The Telegraph continues:
It appeared the mannequin’s lack of a head may have perturbed the Queen, who added: ”It’s made to look very creepy.”
Kate countered with her own view and said it had a ”3D effect”
Apparently this is one Queen who will never command “Off With Her Head!”
The dress, which is made of ivory and satin, is illuminated by 12 spotlights and is the centerpiece of the four-month exhibit, which commemorates the royal wedding.
The exhibit also features:
- The shoes Kate wore down the aisle
- A life-sized replica of Will and Kate’s 10-tier wedding cake
- The Cartier tiara that Kate wore during her wedding — which she borrowed from Queen Elizabeth, who was given that tiara as an 18th birthday present from her mom, Queen Victoria
The exhibit is expected to draw 700,000 visitors.
